Mount Meru (4,566m) is a 4-day trek combining high-altitude hiking, abundant wildlife, and breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Less crowded than Kilimanjaro, it offers an immersive wilderness experience through areas inhabited by elephants, buffalo, giraffes, and primates, making it ideal for nature lovers and adventure seekers.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Start at Momella Gate (1,500m) in Arusha National Park. Trek through grassland with buffalo, giraffe, warthog. Continue through forest spotting colobus monkeys. Arrive Miriakamba Hut (2,514m). Elevation gain: 1,014m. Distance: 10km. Duration: 4-6 hours.
Steep climb to Mgongo wa Tembo (Elephant Ridge). Views of Meru Crater and Ash Cone. Reach Saddle Hut (3,570m). Optional afternoon hike to Little Meru (3,820m) with Kilimanjaro views. Elevation gain: 1,056m. Distance: 8km. Duration: 3-5 hours.
Start 1:30 AM. Climb narrow ridge to Socialist Peak (4,566m) for sunrise over Kilimanjaro and Meru Crater. Descend to Saddle Hut for breakfast, continue to Miriakamba Hut (2,514m). Elevation gain: 996m, loss: 2,052m. Distance: 16km. Duration: 10-12 hours.
Final descent through forest and grassland. More wildlife viewing. Sign out at Momella Gate (1,500m). Receive summit certificate. Transfer to Moshi/Arusha. Elevation loss: 1,014m. Distance: 10km. Duration: 2-3 hours.
